Vintage Plate FOR DORICO & FINALE V27 FEATURE 3 SMUFL COMPLIANT MUSIC FONTS: “Vintage Plate”, “Vintage Plate STD” & “Vintage Plate Light”.
Vintage Plate fonts are elegant engraver music fonts with Standard, Heavy, and Lighter appearances. They’re more robust than some other music fonts but more accurately represent a vintage look of smooth music notation. Vintage Plate fonts are suitable for modern sophisticated Pop, Rock, Jazz, Piano, Vocals, Choirs, Marching Bands, and all types of musical ensembles, even Symphonies. They have a unique subtle individuality with a softer and fatter look, making them great for school manuals and education materials. Both fonts look fun and easy, so they won’t scare students. Vintage Plate fonts work with Finale v27 and Dorico™ Pro as an alternative to Finale Maestro and Bravura fonts, or any other SMuFL font.

INSTALLING PLATE FONTS
Installing Vintage Plate fonts is simple since they come with four installers: one for macOS and three for Windows.
APPLYING VINTAGE PLATE FONTS IN DORICO™ PRO
When running Dorico, it finds new metadata files and adds the fonts to its list of available SMuFL fonts. To use the Vintage Plate fonts, follow these steps:
- Open a Dorico score,
- Click on the Library > Music Fonts menu option,
- In the dialog window that appears, click on the name of the font in the list, then click the button “Change Music Font” and select Vintage Plate, Vintage Plate STD or Vintage Plate Light to apply the font to your open score project
- Again, Library > Font Styles… > Font Style to “Default Music Text Font” choose: Vintage Plate / Vintage Plate STD / Vintage Plate Light
- You’d need also to change the character style: Library > Character Styles… > set Font to Bravura Text
- You can optionally check or uncheck the box to use the recommended engraving options; click “OK”, and you’ll notice that your score project is taking effect of the changes with the newly selected Vintage Plate / Vintage Plate STD / Vintage Plate Light font.
- Go to Library > Paragraph Styles > Default Text font to Old Music Standard font. Another enhanced version is here.
- You can also use two extra treble clefs (letter A and C) that are slightly tilted to the right. We also added a regular note-head (letter B) you can access it through NoteHeads Set.

2 reviews for Vintage Plate (SMUFL) Fonts
I’ve just completed my first project using “Vintage Plate”, and couldn’t be happier with the results. It’s clean and legible, with the warmth and charm of classic typesetting. The installation process was simple, and all three included fonts were instantly available when I relaunched Dorico. I plan on using this as my default font from now on!
This is my favourite design so far—extremely elegant and thoughtfully crafted. It offers three weights at a very reasonable cost, making it highly versatile. The lighter versions are perfect for chamber music, providing clarity without overwhelming the page, while the bolder weight enhances legibility in orchestral scores. The details are carefully refined; I’m especially impressed by the treble clef, flag shapes, accidentals, and tuplet numerals, all of which feel meticulously balanced. Dynamics are well-proportioned and integrate very well into the overall design. It is also suitable for a wide variety of music. Highly recommended!
